2023 Brennan Lecture Series

2023 The Home of God

The Diocese of Kentucky will host a Brennan Lecture Series with Professor Miroslav Volf,

Henry B. Wright Professor of Systematic Theology, and Founding Director, Yale Center for Faith & Culture,

on Saturday, December 16, 9:30am - 3:00pm ET at Christ Church Cathedral.

In his lecture, Dr. Volf will introduce participants to the themes of his book (co-authored with Ryan McAnnally-Linz), The Home of God. 

"This book tells the 'story of everything' in which God creates the world as the home for humans and for God in communion with God's creatures. The authors render the story of creation, redemption, and consummation through the lens of God's homemaking work and show the theological fruit of telling the story this way." The book was also written, in part, as a response to our present "crisis of home", which has manifested itself in mass displacements, anxious nationalism, and "an aching sense that there is nowhere we truly belong."

After lunch, participants will take part in a workshop focused on Chapter 6 of The Home of God - "Life in the Household." Small groups will discuss how we live out or hope to live out the commandment given by Jesus to love one another. Dr. Volf will lead us in exploring "a vision that can inspire creative Christian living in our various homes today in faithfulness to God's ongoing work."

The Right Rev. Robert C. Wright is the 10th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta. At the time of his election in June 2012, he had served 10 years as rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta. Prior to that, he was a school chaplain and on the staff of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City.
