“Lend Your Muscle” – as the Metro United Way Web site graphic implores – and volunteer to help clean up flood-damaged homes in Louisville.
Some 300 homes have een cleaned already, but more than 80 are still on the wait list, according to a report in the Aug. 28 Courier-Journal. Officials hope to have all of the clean-up work completed by next week.
Although volunteer work crews from across the country have assisted in the clean-up, Metro United Way is looking for more volunteers from the community.
Volunteers are advised to wear leather boots, long-sleeved shirts and long pants because they will be removing drywall and hauling out wet carpets and other property inside the flooded households. Having current tetanus shots are also advisable.
For more details about volunteering or information about joining a clean-up crew, contact Kelly Thompson with Metro United Way at 502-292-6153 or Maurice Lefevre with United Church of Christ at 502-671-0403.
