Loading...Weeks of preparation by Christian Formation leaders and volunteers from five Louisville parishes culminated in an exciting week of Vacation Bible School with the "saints" under the "Big Top" at St. Mark's Episcopal Church from June 7-11.
"The Saints Go to the Circus" was the fifth joint summer Bible school offered for children ages four through 11 by Calvary, Christ Church Cathedral, St. Andrew's, St. Mark's and St. Matthew's Episcopal churches.
The VBS brought 95 children and more than 20 youth and adult volunteers to the Frankfort Avenue parish, where they were welcomed each morning inside the Big Circus Tent by St. Mark's rector, the Rev. Dr. Charles Hawkins, who wrote the curriculum. There they learned about the "Saints of God" and the virtues they represented through art, games, storytelling, music, worship and skits presented by the Rev. Ben Mass, St. Andrew's rector, and his dramatic team.
Hosted by the parishes on a rotating basis, the joint VBS will return next summer to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, where the first one was held. Organizers have noted that the participants' collaboration on the joint summer Bible schools, through ideas, resources and locations, has created friendships that not only make Vacation Bible School "more fun for everyone each year" but also have them looking forward to seeing one another at All Saints' camps and other diocesan gatherings.
