Sunday, May 22, 2011, has been designated as the day to commemorate the ministry of St. George's Community Center in Louisville, and a Celebration through Prayer is planned that evening.
The prayer service will be held from 5-6 p.m. (EDT) at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1205 S. 26th St.
The center staff and board of directors specifically ask for prayers and support as they begin to prepare for 70 students enrolled in their fifth Freedom School. Eight college-aged interns will join the staff in leading the summer enrichment program for children, which this year will be held at Maupin Elementary School, 1312 Catalpa St, June 20-29.
If you can't make it to the western Louisville church, you can still show your support that Sunday. Parishes throughout the diocese are being asked to participate in a commemorative offering on May 22 on behalf of the community center, which serves youngsters and at-risk students from Park-Duvall neighborhood.
Please consider making a gift to this critical diocesan ministry on Sunday, May 22. You may leave a donation at your parish, marked for St. George's Community Center, or mail a offering directly to the center at 1205 S. 26th street, Louisville, KY 40210.
