Loading...During tough economic times, people may not be able to afford to go to the doctor and get important health screenings. But this summer families will be able to take advantage of free health screenings while entertaining their family for free or at a minimal cost at the annual St. George’s Community Center Health & Fun Fair.
The health screenings and fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, June 20 at the community center, located at 26th and Oak streets in western Louisville.
Health screenings include stroke risk assessment, blood pressure screening, irregular pulse check, body fat analysis and chiropractic consultations. Information will also be available on lead poisoning prevention, diabetes, dental and eye care, mental health and fitness training as well as local service agencies. Chair massages will be offered, and children will be treated to free ice cream. Several local businesses and organizations are participating in the event.
Demonstrations will be given at noon by the ElderServe Community Dance Team and at 1 p.m. by Tai Chi Chuan. Free recreational activities include finger and face painting, the astro jump, a bean bag throw and basketball shoot. Tai Chi and dance team demonstrations will also be held.
“The Health & Fun Fair is a great opportunity for the entire family to get out and enjoy the day together as well as take advantage of free tests to ensure the health and well-being of everyone,” said Arthur Cox, the center's executive director.
The event is sponsored by District 3 Metro Councilwoman Mary C. Woolridge, Norton Healthcare, St. George’s Community Center and St. George’s Episcopal Church.
