Loading...St. George’s Community Center will host the first annual Lillian Yeager Community Luncheon June 28 to celebrate the contributions of civic and business leaders dedicated to improving the Louisville community through service. In addition, luncheon organizers will name the first recipients of awards established in honor of Dr. Lillian Yeager, whose name could be considered by many as synonymous with service and commitment.
Yeager, who was dean of of nursing at Indiana University Southeast, died May 23, 2006. She was known through out the community for her service to many organizations, and she was profiled on WHAS-TV in 2005 for her work fon behalf of one of them, the Ovarian Awareness of Kentucky organization. Yeager was a devoted to the Episcopal Church, serving in various parish, diocesan and national positions. Her contributions to the wider church, as a member of the Executive Council and Province IV, was recognized in a letter from then Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold during the funeral service.
Last month, St. George’s contacted area businesses and organizations for nominations for the two awards established in her name. The Lillian Yeager Citizen/Community Service Awards will be given to someone who has demonstrated initiative and accomplishment through personal and/or professional service to the community’s citizens. The Lillian Yeager Business Leadership Awards will recognize someone’s community leadership, selfless service and initiation of an important, ongoing community program or project.
The luncheon will be June 28 beginning at noon (EDT), at Jay’s Cafeteria, 1812 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd., in Louisville. For additional information, call St. George’s Center at (502) 775-6232.
