Loading...The Rev. Dr. Sam Portaro, a prolific writer whose works included the Bright and the Best: A Companion to Lesser Feasts and Fasts, will be leading a summer weekend retreat for spiritual renewal in August in Mississippi.
The retreat, entitled "Thus Far, By Faith: A Conversation on Partnering with God," is presented by the Diocese of Mississippi's Committee on Ministry with LGBT Persons and the Center for Formation & Mission. It will be Aug. 27-29 at the Duncan M. Gray Camp & Conference Center, Canton, Miss.
Describing the retreat, organizers said Portaro, a priest in the Diocese of Chicago, picked a theme, based on the premise that each person's spiritual journey may be unique but it is not soltary. "The LGBT person, in particular, and others as well, may be especially sensitive to trusted partners on life’s journey; to whom and with whom they can be their true selves. Choosing one’s traveling companions is personal and always a risk," the retreat brochure notes.
