Loading...This summer, the Urban Partnership hosted a dismantling racism workshop with Dr. Catherine Meeks. During that time, Meeks spoke of the need for clear and concrete signs of repentance regarding slavery and its lasting heritage within our society. Participants of the workshop spoke of the awareness that although they were not alive during the time of slavery, much of what is enjoyed and depended upon today was created by that system. For example, members of the Cathedral expressed the belief that they may be worshiping in a building that was constructed, in part, by slave labor.
In response to the ongoing work of racial reconciliation within our diocese, and what was learned during the dismantling racism workshop, the Urban Partnership invites all congregations in the metro area, and other Episcopalians through the diocese, to join them as they express the need for racial healing and make confession for the system of slavery and its ongoing legacy.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, beginning at noon in the Chapel, the Urban Partnership invites all to join them in a Repentance and Reconciliation Liturgy and Walk. From the Cathedral, participants will make their way to several Louisville plaques that mark the history of slavery in Louisville. Mark your calendars and plan to join the Urban Partnership and Cathedral community on that day.
