Several of you may know already that there have been changes in diocesan office staff during this summer.
- Mike Hutchins, Administrative Assistant to the Bishop, left July 1 after that position was closed due to budget constraints.
* Betty Williams, Office Administrator, left August 31 when that position also was not able to be funded.
Both Betty and Mike have made significant contributions to our life and ministry, and we are grateful to them for their service.
With these changes, we now have a maximum of four staff members in the Louisville office when all are on premises. Meetings, pastoral calls, and other responsibilities take each of us out of the office from time to time. We have found it best, from the standpoint of security, to have at least two persons in the office at all times. However, the decreased level of staffing makes that difficult right now. In the middle of the day, if we have to leave one person alone for a time, the elevator is locked to control access. This is especially important because the building is occupied sporadically by other tenants, particularly on Mondays and Fridays.

Also, we do not have a paid receptionist to answer the telephones. We do have an automated system that lets callers dial our Louisville office extensions directly. Those extensions are as follows:
- Bishop White and Canon Smith, ext. 239
- Becky Meyer, Controller, ext. 240
- Mary Jane Cherry, Communications Director ext. 232
We are trying to be as accessible as we can be, for as many hours a day and week as possible, while maintaining the physical safety of the staff. Our usual office hours have been 9-5 eastern, Monday through Friday. We may find that staff will have to telecommute some days when we are not able to have two employees in the office.
The other temporary complication is that the city has closed on-street parking meters on Second Street to reroute traffic during the closure of the Sherman Minton (I-64) bridge. Although we always love to see you all, this latter part of 2011 probably is not the best time to drop in unannounced. It would be better to call or email the person you need to see before you come to the office.
