Presiding bishop visited Episcopal Church Home

Retired clergy and several elderly Episcopalians got a close up view of the Episcopal Church’s presiding bishop and three young photographers from St. George’s Community Center got to document her last official stop in the Diocese of Kentucky when she visited the Episcopal Church Home in Louisville on Sunday, May 18.

After presiding over two worship services, the Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori toured the church home later that afternoon and attended a reception there. She was greeted by about 100 guests, who included residents of the church home, members of its board of directors and the diocese’s retired clergy members and their spouses.

 

At the request of the diocese, St. George’s Community Center sent three youth members who are photography students of attorney/photographer Donald Vish. During the reception, the students—Kary Goff, Aaron Payne and YaQuisha Starling—also presented the presiding bishop with a copy of “The Doors of St. George’s,” the 2008 calendar they helped to produce last year as a fund raiser for the community center.  The calendar features photos of doors of Episcopal churches in the Louisville area, all taken by members of the photo class at St. George’s.  The presiding bishop liked it so well that she requested another for her husband, Richard Schori, who is an accomplished photographer.
