Loading...An Episcopal deaconness, Sister Emily Cooper, the director of the Home of the Innocents from the late 1800s to early 1900s, has been the focus of much activity in the Diocese of Kentucky, which is asking for her to be included in the Episcopal Church's Holy Women, Holy Men, and that activity is about to coalesce into her commemoration day on Saturday, June 11.
It's an event Episcopalians in our diocese won't want to miss, as they will learn about this woman's extraordinary ministry to hundreds of foundlings and sick and abandoned children left at the home, and they will see firsthand the ongoing ministry it has become and will hear about the ministry her story continues to inspire.
Beginning at 9 a.m. (EDT), the day's events will include a tour of the Home of the Innocents, a 10:30 a.m. commemoration service at Church of the Advent with Bishop Terry White, refreshments and a noon procession through Cave Hill Cemtery to the grave sites of infants and children who died at the Home between the 1880s and 1920s.
