Loading..."Mist, Substance and Hot Air: Making Sense of Shifting Ground" is the theme of the Fall Conference of the Midwest Region of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Reserve September 23-24, 2011, beginning at 11:00 am Friday through 12:30 pm Saturday at the Fort Wayne Marriott, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Loren Townsend, who will facilitate Friday's plenary sessions, "Mist, Substance and Hot Air: Making Sense of Shifting Ground," and a Saturday workshop entitled "Multi-Cultural and Post-Modern Therapies in Pastoral Practice."
Townsend is the Henry Morris Edmonds Professor of Pastoral Ministry and a professor of pastoral care and counseling at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where he also directs the doctor of ministry degree in pastoral care and counseling. He has been a licensed marriage and family therapist and pastoral counselor for more than 30 years and directed training centers in California, Arizona and Georgia before arriving in Louisville in 1996.
Loren's research and teaching have centered on constructive theological methods for managing conversation between behavioral sciences and practice of ministry, qualitative study of pastoral counselors' identity and practices, and most recently on how post-modern visions of human life impact the pastoral counseling theories and practices. Publications include Pastoral Care with Stepfamilies: Mapping the Wilderness (Chalice Press, 2000), Pastoral Responses to Suicide (Abingdon, 2006) and Introduction to Pastoral Counseling (Abingdon, 2009).
Four additional relevant workshops for both pastoral counselors and pastoral care specialists will be offered on Saturday morning. Pastors and persons working in related healing professions are encouraged to attend.
