Ben Linder, a former member of our diocese who has served in youth and young adult ministries in Arkansas since 2002, will be joining the diocesan staff in March as the new youth and young adults’ director. He will also be joining the staff at St. Matthew’s Church in Louisville.
Linder will begin the joint appointment in mid-March, splitting his time between the two organizations. As the diocese’s youth director, he will plan and administer the diocese’s camp programs at All Saints Episcopal Center in Leitchfield; oversee the diocesan Youth Council and related programming; and provide support to our congregations’ youth programs and leaders.
Serving in a joint diocesan-parish ministry is not an entirely new situation for Linder. Since 2004, he has been the director of youth and young adult ministries for St. Margaret’s Church in Little Rock, Ark., and was the summer program director for the Diocese of Arkansas’ Camp Mitchell Camp and Retreat Center (2003, 2005 and 2006). Before those positions, he was the assistant summer program director at the retreat center in 2002 and was director of child and youth formations at St. Peter’s Church in Conway, Ark., from 2002 to 2004.
Since 2002, he has participated in a continuing education certification program for youth and religious education directors offered by the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest at Austin,Texas, and he is also at work on a history and writing degree from Western Kentucky University.
If his name sounds familiar, it should. He is the son of Mark Linder, rector of Christ Church in Bowling Green. Look for a more complete profile of Linder, identifying in particular his objectives and vision for the position, once he and his wife, Shanna, have had time to get settled into the new location and job.
