He is the author or co-author of 19 books, many of them best-sellers. Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time (1994) is the single best-selling book by a contemporary Jesus scholar. He published his first novel, Putting Away Childish Things: A Tale of Modern Faith, last year. His most recent book, Speaking Christian, Why Christian Words Have Lost Their Meaning and Power - And How They Can Be Restored, was published in April.

The Dimensions of Faith speaker series at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church serves the Louisville community by bringing in thought-provoking thinkers, including writers, teachers, theologians, preachers and more. These speakers challenge our minds and renew our spirits as they explore contemporary religious and theological ideas and connect them with modern culture.
