Loading...With Karen and Burmese dancers, readings and prayers from Hindu, Baha'i and Muslim children, and music by recording artist Andrea Davidson, Interfaith Paths to Peace in cooperation with a number of local groups will host a unique Interfaith Memorial Day Service.
The service, which will begin at 11 a.m. (ET) on Monday, May 31, is unique because it honors not only military dead but also civilian dead in all U.S. wars. The cathedral is located at 421 S. Second St.,Louisville.
The reception following the service will feature an exhibit of "Peace Postcards" gathered by Louisville peacemaker Allan Weiss with images of "how I envision peace" submitted by young people of all ages from around the world. The exhibit is a selection taken from more than 7,000 cards that have been received to date.
This is the 26th annual Memorial Day Service and will include a special emphasis on youthful presenters (see list below). This event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception at which those attending can meet and converse with the presenters.
Included on the program are the following presenters:
Dancers: Thai and Caran children.
Music: Youth Group from Westwood Presbyterian Church; the St. Clair Quartet; Sam, Nancy and Micah Harris, and Louisville recording artist Andrea Davidson.
Reading: a 10-year-old boy from Louisville's Baha'I Center.
Reflections on peace: a fifth-grade student from Bates Elementary School and a graduate of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School.
Prayers for Peace: Hindu and Muslim Middle School students.
Photography: a student from St. George's Community Center.
Presentation on "International Peacemaking": a representative from Muhammad Ali Center Council of Students.
