Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration events set

The Louisville Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration Committee has announced plans for a series of events on August 6 and 9, marking the 63rd anniversary of the atomic bombing of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
  • A public reading of selections John Hersey's classic book, Hiroshima, at Thomas Merton Square in downtown Louisville,

    •    Leafletting for Nuclear Disarmament at the same time and location on August 6,

    •    A tolling of the Bells and reading of Thomas Merton's poem "Original Child Bomb" at Christ Church Cathedral at noon on August 9, and

    •    A traditional Japanese Candle Floating Ceremony at 8 p.m. on August 9 at the park adjacent to the lake at the corner of Grinstead and Lexington.
