As part of our Lent 4.5 programs on Christian simplicity, Church of the Advent and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church are offering an event called "Eating Sustainably" to learn more about community-supported agriculture on Thursday evening, March 31, 2011.
Food is not simply fuel. Eating is an agricultural act, an ecological act, a social act, and a moral act. Every time we sit down for a meal, we are supporting a food system that has reverberating effects on the sustainability of the Earth. Farming policies and practices can help or harm the natural world. Learn about Kentucky farms and eating sustainably, meet a farmer and, if you like, sign up for a weekly food subscription.
We are inviting Sarah Fritschner, coordinator of Louisville Farm to Table and author of "Edible Louisville," and Mary Courtney, a Shelby County Farmer, to talk about community-supported Agriculture (CSA) and educate us on how the decisions we make when buying food can focus on the sustainability of the earth.
Join us in our auditorium at Christ Church, 901 Baxter Avenue, from 6-7 p.m. (EDT). PLEASE NOTE: Parking on Baxter Avenue is not allowed until after 6 p.m. Because of this, we'll likely start the event a few minutes after 6.
