The Very Rev. David Simmons, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church and Episcopal chaplain at Western Kentucky University, has accepted a call to serve as rector of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Waukesha, Wisc. He is also the dean of the Four Rivers Deanery, composed of nine western Kentucky Episcopal congregations: Grace, Paducah; Grace, Hopkinsville; St. John's, Murray; St. Mary's, Madisonville; St. Paul's, Henderson; St. Paul's, Hickman; St. Peter's of the Lake, Gilbertsville; Trinity, Fulton; and Trinity, Owensboro.
Simmons' last day of ministry in the diocese is Dec. 30. He was called to serve St. John's and college chaplaincy just under five years ago.
He and his wife, Micky, have two children, Brendan and Brigid. Simmons' first day at St. Matthias will be Jan. 20. He described St. Matthias as a "program parish" with a Sunday attendance averaging about 150 communicants. The parish dates from the 1840s and is located in the Milwaukee area.
