Loading...The Rev. Nancy Jo Kemper, the retired executive director of the Kentucky Council of Churches, and pastor of New Union Christian Church in Woodford County, was recently awarded the 2010 Yale Divinity School's William Sloane Coffin Award for Peace and Justice.
The United Church of Christ News, quoting a news release, reported that the award "recognizes courageous devotion to the dignity and worth of all persons, and is presented for notable contributions to the work of peace, nuclear disarmament and reconciliation." (William Sloane Coffin was a chaplain to Yale University, pastor of New York City's Riverside Church and prominent 20th century religious leader.)
Kemper is well known throughout Kentucky for her unyielding commitment to peace, ecumenism, economic justice and the dignity of all persons. She gave the member communions of the Kentucky Council of Churches a strong and credible voice in Frankfort for 18 years.
