Bardstown church hosts concerts as fund raiser

Diocesan News & Publications

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Bardstown, Ky., is hosting a music series both as a fund raiser and as a means of bringing more classical music to the central Kentucky city. The next concert, the series’ second, will feature the Bourbon City Brass Band performing a program of holiday music. It will begin at 3 p.m. (EST) Sunday, Dec. 9, at the church, located at 211 N. Third St. in downtown Bardstown. The series' organizers want to showcase primarily local musicians during the series, which they plan to continue on the first Sunday of each month in 2008. The first concert was attended by 45 people last month. It raised more than $350 for the church. All concerts are free, but donations are accepted.

Although the series has commitments for most of next year, organizers are asking church music directors to contact Ascension if they know of individuals, groups or choirs who would be interested in donating a performance to assist the church's fund-raising effort. For more information, contact Jonas Hurley, an Ascension parishioner, at either jhurley@bardstowncable.net or (502) 348-1955 or (502) 331-1492.
