Bach Society will present free concert Aug. 19

The Louisville Bach Society will present its annual free concert on Sunday, Aug. 19, in downtown Louisville. The performance will be at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 639 S. Shelby St., beginning at 3 p.m. (EDT).


Included on the program will be Handel's Psalm 42, cantatas 131 and 196 by Bach, and a motet by Heinrich Schütz. As a special feature, organist Margaret Dickinson will perform Bach's Fantasia in G minor.

Music Director Melvin Dickinson will lead the Bach Society Chorus and Orchestra. Soloists for the concert include Mary Wilson Redden, soprano; Mary Beth McCandless, alto; Harvey Turner, tenor; Herbert Thornton, baritone; and Alexander Redden, bass.
