Author Diane Butler Bass to give lecture series

In January, the Presbytery of Mid-Kentucky and the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky will co-sponsor a series of lectures by Dr. Diana Butler Bass based on her books The Practicing Congregation: Imagining a New Old Church and Christianity for the Rest of Us. Bass is an expert in American religion, author, speaker and independent scholar. She is the author of six books and numerous articles dealing with mainline Christianity in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Her book Episcopalians in America is scheduled for publication in 2008. A member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Washington, D.C, she has had articles published in such publications as The Christian Century, Sojourners and The Door. She is a regular contributor to Jim Wallis' blog, and is on the advisory board for Synagogue 3000, a Jewish renewal organization.

Her first lecture on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, beginning at 7 p.m. (EST). This session will be largely restricted to Episcopal and Presbyterian clergy, and pre-registration is required. The event will consist of a 90-minute presentation followed by a question-and-answer period.

On Saturday, Jan. 19, the lectures will take place at the Presbyterian Seminary from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including three lectures and a catered lunch. This presentation will be open to both clergy and lay participants, all of whom are asked to pre-register.

The cost will be $10 for clergy attending only the Friday night lecture and $25 for clergy who attend both events. Those who attend the Saturday event only will be charged $20.
