Loading...Thirty-five and a half years ago, a small group of folks with a common purpose began the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Starting as a house church, growing, moving, and finding a permanent home on North Third Street, becoming a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky, our faith community, now over 100 strong, stands as a beacon of God's unconditional love and grace in this community.
Scripture informs us that, “if it is of God, it will stand,” and we have indeed stood for these 35-plus years. God has blessed Ascension, and we want to offer thanks to God for all people who have come through our big red doors, whether they have remained here, or moved forward on their life's journey. We affirm that the church is not a building; it is people. And we want to take an opportunity to come as members past, present, and even future, of this community to celebrate and give thanks.
Therefore, please join us for a Homecoming on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 10 AM (EDT) to give thanks for those who began God's work in this place, and for those who have continued it every year, in many ways, since then. It will be a time to remember, to reacquaint, to reflect, and to worship as the Body of Christ. It will be a time to remember baptisms, receptions, confirmations, births, deaths and marriages. It can be a time of sharing humorous or serious stories. It can be an opportunity to express hopes and offer prayers for Ascension's future as a faith community.
We'll have pictures of times past and present, and opportunities for fellowship following the service. Child care for infants and young children will be available.
