The menu for the sit-down lunch is set; names are being compiled for those to be baptized, confirmed, reaffirmed and received during the worship service; donations are being accepted for the gift and All Saints' readied for next week's retirement celebration honoring Bishop Ted Gulick. And all are invited, advance reservations not required.
The celebration will be Saturday, July 10, at All Saints' Conference Center, beginning at noon (CST) with Eucharist, Baptism and Confirmation and followed by lunch and the presentation of a gift in appreciation for his 16-plus years of service. Bishop Gulick's episcopacy ends Sept. 25 when his successor, Bishop-elect Terry Allen White, is ordained and consecrated the eighth bishop. All are invited, and reservations are unnecessary, according to Bishop Transition Committee chair, the Rev. Dr. Rose Bogal-Allbritten.
Traditionally, Episcopal dioceses give an outgoing bishop a memorable gift. Some bishops request a personal gift, and some
prefer one that will benefit the diocese. Bishop Gulick has asked for a legacy giift of a "Bishop's Cabin" at All Saints' so the new bishop will always have a place to stay when he visits the camp and conference center, located on Rough River Lake in near Leitchfield. To that end, the Transition Committee has asked that all members of the diocese to contribute to make it truly a gift from the diocese. Once the needed funds are raised, the Bishop Transition Committee will purchase and install the rustic, modular cabin, said Bogal-Allbritten. Approximately $40,000 has been raised, and an addiitional $20,000 is still needed, she reported.
Contributions to the legacy gift are still being accepted. Checks should be made out to Trustees and Council with "Bishop's retirement gift" in the memo line and sent to Betty Blodgett, St. John's Episcopal Church, 1620 W. Main St., Murray, KY 42071. A donation also may be made online by visiting the Diocese of Kentucky's website and clicking on the "Donate" button, which can be found here. If you have questions, please call the Rev. Rose Bogal-Allbritten at 270-293-9490 or Betty Blodgett at 270-293-4190.
Congregations may also still arrange for baptisms, confirmations or receptions through Monday, July 5, by contacting the committee chair at 270-293-9490 or rosebogal@gmail.com.
