Isaiah 42:1-9 ; Psalm 36:5-11 ; Hebrews 9:11-15 ; John 12:1-11
The collect for this day says that by walking the way of the cross, by grace, we find it to be none other than the way of life and peace. At different points in our life’s journey, we find ourselves walking the way of the cross. Such times are not simply difficult moments, but are those journeys which reveal to us something new of God’s grace and love.
To be sure, these can be times of trial such as illness, the loss of a job, the death of a relationship, or the death of a loved one. But these journeys also include discerning God’s will in terms of how to faithfully live out the baptismal covenant, how to serve more faithfully, how to empty oneself taking the form of a servant, how to love an enemy and forgive that which feels so unforgiveable.
At the cross, all is redeemed, complete forgiveness is offered, unconditional love flows into the world and into our lives. The way of the cross is none other than the way of life and peace. May we each walk this way, and may the Church find this way to be the only source of lour life and peace.

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
