2007-2008 Cathedral music series, new artists-in-r

The Cathedral Music program’s 2007-2008 music series will include several Evensongs sung by the Cathedral Choir, an Advent Evensong sung the University of Louisville Early Music Ensemble and an art show and benefit concert for the cathedral on April 4, 2008. The music program also announced it is beginning a new artists-in-residence program.

Three artists in residence—Kathryn Aaron, soprano; Jane Halliday, violin; and David Welch, trumpet—will be featured throughout the year in various services and special musical events at the cathedral. Each is a professional musician with a connection to the cathedral and an active performance career. Residencies often occur in an academic environment, but are also found in sacred settings in such places as Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York and now Christ Church Cathedral, Louisville.

The cathedral’s fall music program will bring several guest choral groups: the Louisville Choral Arts Society at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2; the Bellarmine University Merci Ensemble, 7 p.m. Nov. 16; Voce Novae, 3 p.m. Nov. 18; and the U of L Early Music Ensemble, 5 p.m. Dec. 2. The cathedral choir will sing at three services this fall: Choral Evensong, 5 p.m. Sept. 30; All Saints’ Day Eucharist, noon Nov. 1; and the Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent, 5 p.m. Dec. 16. Mid-day Taizé Prayer Services for Advent will be held from 12:05 to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 7, 12 and 21. Admission to the Louisville Choral Arts Society concern is $20 with discount rates of $15 for seniors and $10 for students (contact 502-228-1176), and tickets are required for the Voces-Novae concert (contact 502-523-6430 or www.voces-novae.org).
