 Greetings from the Diocese

Dear Subscriber:

Our Web site and those of our parish partners have a new look and some exciting new capabilities. After months of development, the Episcopal Media Center, our Web  consultant in Atlanta, has changed the software to enhance the Web sites of the partnering dioceses, congregations and other members of its Digital Faith Community.  Work on transitioning to the new software is stil underway so you may encounter glitches (not for long, we hope).  Because of the new software, we now have news pages that allow visitors to submit comments  and soon (hopefully next week) we will be able to offer online event registration and online payments.

Youth will be "Listening for God in Your Dreams" at All Saints' gathering this weekend
Fifty youth and adults from around the Diocese of Kentucky will come together for the Diocesan Youth Community's Fall Gathering, to be held at All Saints' Center this weekend, Oct. 5-7.

This year's theme is "Listening for God in our Dreams." Kyran Pittman, noted Dream Workshop facilitator, will lead the program. Youth and adults will learn how to decipher dreams, how to deal with bad dreams, and how to listen for God in dreams.  They will also enjoy large group discussion, small group exercises and one-on-one discussions with Pittman.

In addition to learning about God and dreams, the youth and adults will have the opportunity to experience All Saints' in the fall and enjoy traditional activities such as a dance and a bonfire. The youth also will report on the happenings around the diocese as well as elect youth to Youth Council, as delegates to Diocesan Convention, and as representatives to the Province IV Youth Network.

Second pilgrimage for peace and nonviolence
will be in Louisville Oct. 11-15

The Heschel/Merton Pilgrimage 2007 will be Oct. 11-15. It is being organized by Interfaith Paths to Peace, and the Diocese of Kentucky's Department of Jubilee and Justice is among the sponsors.

The five-day pilgrimage is designed to involve 50 individuals from the Louisville area to draw attention to finding nonviolent ways for addressing major problems confronting our community, the nation and the world. Building on the successful Gandhi/Merton Pilgrimage for Peace and Nonviolence held in September of 2006, this year's pilgrimage is named to honor Thomas Merton and Abraham Joshua Heschel, one of the 20th Century's greatest Jewish thinkers and a major force in peace and justice. Heschel worked closely with the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year marks the centennial of Heschel's birth.

For further information contact Dr. Mary Abrams (meabrams@bellsouth.net).

St. George's Freedom School recognized as a top site
St. George's Community Center won accolades this summer as a top Freedom School site in the nation and was invited to share its success story last month with the leadership and staff of the Children's Defense Fund, which developed the after-school and summer enrichment program for African American children. Receiving this distinction is extraordinary for a first-year program, according to Arthur Cox, St. George's executive director.

St. George's program was ranked one of this summer's top three sites following a visit by an evaluator with the national program. Cox said she told him that St. George's "is an outstanding Freedom School site" and that she was "truly amazed at the fact that this is your first year. You have every component fully engaged and thriving."  Read more

God's peace be with you,
We often don't get an opportunity to indivdually thank the members of our diocese for their contributions to our churches, the diocese and the wider church. We know many of you are helping our church spread God's word and love throughout our communities. Please know that your contributions are appreciated and we want to show that appreciation by sharing news of your good works with Episcopalians throughout the diocese. Please keep in touch.
